What does a New Year mean to you? Have you written your resolutions yet? What do you plan to achieve in 2010? Are you ready to make changes in your life right now?
Most, if not all of us, make New Year’s resolution every year. It is the time when we lay our plans, write our goals and define our dreams. But is it enough to just write them down on a piece of paper and hide it away somewhere without looking at it for the rest of the year?
This year, I would like to challenge everybody to take a look at their lives right now. Reflect on your present situation in life. Where are you at this point in your life? Are you achieving your goals? Are you happy in your current situation, in your job? Are you living an interesting and fun-filled life? Or NOT - but you simply don’t know how to change things around?
Many of us are hesitant to make a change in our lives because we are afraid of making mistakes and experiencing failures. We fear what other people will say if we do not do what they expect of us. I used to share these same views, until I found an opportunity that REALLY changed my life. An opportunity that not only changed the way I thought and responsed to daily lessons in life, but an opportunity that is giving me abundance and freedom.
I would like to share what I’ve been learning on my journey. Here are some steps you can use as a guideline to achieve what you really want in your life.
1. Set your goals - Goals are the driving force behind any achievement. Setting goals is what gets us to what we want and where we want to go. When you set your goals, remember not to focus on where you are right now, but instead focus on what you want to have in your life. Write your goals down on paper and be as specific as possible. Studies have shown that if you write down your dreams and goals, you are MUCH more likely to achieve them.
2. Create a positive affirmation about your goals - Consider writing your goals from the perspective that you have already achieved them. Always carry your goal cards with you and read them to yourself everyday. As you read them, read with emotion. Really feel passionate about the goals you have set. See, smell, feel and sense your goals as you imagine having achieved them..
3. Visualize your goals - Everyday make it a habit to visualize your goal. Visualize that you have already achieved your goals. If your goal is to be back home with your family, visualize that you are already with them. Where are you at this moment, are you in the living room, or dining room or are you at the park with your kids? Is it a sunny day or a rainy day? What are you doing right now? How does it feel to hold them in your arms? How does it feel to hear them laughing and calling you ‘mama’ or ‘papa?’
4. Drive the right vehicle - The definition of vehicle is a conveyance that transports people or objects. What you choose to do for a living is a vehicle which takes you from where you are to where you want to go financially. Does you current financial vehicle have the ability to create substantial income for you? Most jobs limit your potential to create wealth.
So the next step is to choose a financial vehicle that will bring you to your destination, which is abundance. It might be to start a small home-business on the side of a full-time job. But with enough focused effort, this part-time business can eventually replace your full time job. Maybe, at the back of your mind you are saying you don’t have the money to start a business. Remember, whatever you think about, it is going to happen. When you know what you want, and you want it badly enough, you will always find a way to get it. Nothing is impossible in life, you just have to believe.
5. Develop a passion for personal development - Educating yourself is the best way to overcome your fear of pursuing your goals. There are so many ways in which you can develop yourself, such as books on Personal development, training cds and dvd’s, to name just a few. I strongly recommend turning off your radio and television, and replacing those habits with reading books and listening to audios that will teach you to new skills that you do not know. Everything you need for your better future and success has already been written and available. Don’t just read the easy stuff. You might be entertained by it but you will never grow from it.
6. Hang around with success-minded people - As the saying goes, birds of the same feather flock together. I recommend that you choose the people who you want to be with. If you mingle with success-minded people, it is most likely that you will become successful too. Gather the information on how they become successful and apply it to yourself.
7. Gratitude - Always be grateful for everything that you have right now, be it small or big. Make it a habit to pause even for 5 to 10 minutes a day and be thankful for everything.
Remember, all our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them. If you want change in your life, then you have to change.

Wonderful post on goal setting! I often ask "How can you reach your destination if you don't have a map to get you there?!"
Expect Success,
